As I was going through my favorite artists of the year to make my 2009 best of list (see entry on the blog), I was tempted to include Brooklyn-based duo French Horn Rebellion, but it would have been somehow hard to justify the decision of ranking them in a Top Ten Album list when all this pair of brothers has ever published are two EP, the gorgeous Up All Night and Beaches & Friends. I can’t resist to mention them in my blog, though, since they may be the band to quote same time, next year.
FHR is made up of Robert and David Perlick-Molinari, two brothers born in Milwaukee who are now based in Brooklyn, where they have made quite a splash in the alternative music scene of Williamsburg.
Robert is an accomplished French horn player who, however, decided to rebel (hence the band’s name) against his classical training and hang it up (the horn, that is).
Older brother David co-produced and engineered MGMT’s original Time To Pretend EP, so the guys obviously know what they are doing, but the video of Up All Night has that quirky touch that makes it look like an extra episode to the central narrative of Almodovar’s 1980 Pepi, Luci, Bom. Check it out.
