Imitation of Life

A journal about film, music, literature and any other form of imitation of life. Seeing through a glass darkly…

The ruling Stones

After yesterday’s entry about CocoRosie’s new album, here comes a new story of brotherly estrangement for the benefit of creativity.

As with Sierra (Coco) and Bianca (Rosie) Casady, life’s vicissitudes separated Angus and Julia Stone in their native Australia and they reunited years later in South America.

They have since released two albums under the consistently simple name of Angus & Julia Stone, A Book Like This (2007) and Down the Way (2010). I first discovered them in the promotional CD of French magazine Les Inrockuptibles through their song Big Jet Plane, and I couldn’t believe that (seemingly) familiar song wasn’t a cover. I haven’t stopped listening to them ever since.

They’re both deliciously hippie and insultingly beautiful and they were recently touring in France, so keep your eyes open because they might be coming to theatres near you any time soon.

Listen to their instant classic Big Jet Plane.
